Fun stuff!

Our beach baby! We went to the beach the other day, I clearly wasn't thinking, it was the first day off school for the grade 12 students! We got there early and there were a few here and there but by 11 am the beach was packed!

I took Sugar into the water and I winced with every step but she trotted in like it was as warm as bath water. She would have thought nothing of walking out til she was up to her neck. Totally fearless! She really enjoyed her first beach day. We had snacks, toys, she made a couple of friends and we got to play in the water. I brought a book with me.....lol..not sure what I was thinking, it wasn't in the least bit relaxing but it sure was fun!
We went to the nursery and bought our seed and plants for the veggie garden. The lady that worked there asked if she could give Sugar some of her very own seeds. She picked the green string beans and could hardly wait to pot them. I figured we'd put them in jiffy pots for now until we get the rest of the rows ready in the garden. Give them a head start. We planted the lettuce so far, perhaps tomorrow we'll get the rest of the veggies planted.
Our niece Miss D turned 7 on the weekend. Sugar loves her cousins soooo much.

Here are all the (little) cousins together. The only one missing is Jac. She was going to come over with Miss K but she got tied up doing something and couldn't make it. Happy Birthday Miss D! We love you!
I made my first red velvet pound cake and I just love the color! It turned out perfect!

I originally planed on making this cake to celebrate our 1 year referral anniversary but decided to instead give it to the teachers at Chinese school. Last Saturday was their last teaching day for the summer. I thought it would be a nice thank you from the kids and us parents.
I thought it would be fun to do a cake with a piece cut out of it covered in fondant. Surprisingly I matched the fondant color perfectly with the red velvet pound cake.
Our Chinese friend from BC has been Skyping us twice a week so she can tell Sugar stories in Chinese. She was teacher at Chinese school a couple of years ago. We feel very very fortunate to have this opportunity and Wendy is so willing! She asked me what Sugars last name was in Chinese, I told her it was "Tong" and she told me "Tong" is Chinese for Sugar! How freaking cool is that! Her daughters name is "Tian" and it means "Sweet".
Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there! A big special Happy Fathers Day to those Dads who are still waiting for their little ones too. We plan on giving Baba the royal treatment here this year. We'll make him BBQ'd steak on Sunday and treat him like a king. We made him a card and we got the base of a cake made for him, not sure how we'll decorate it yet but we'll think of something.
I have to make a cake for a lady in August. She is getting Married in Vegas and having her bridal shower here before she goes. I'm making a 2-3 tier cake with the Vegas sign on it, poker chips, cards ect. should be a fun one to make! I have to make a Topsy Turvy cake for a 15th birthday party next week. It's for one of the youth in our youth group. She is such a sweet young lady. She just had her grade 9 prom last night. We went over to see her with her beautiful dress on. She looked stunning!
Looks like it's going to be a beautiful weekend! Enjoy!
