Day 5, Across State to Las Vegas, Nevada

Headed out of Santa Barbara around noon toward Santa Clarita then headed across state to Las Vegas, Nevada. Went threw some pretty awesome mountain terrain with beautiful canyons here and there and once in a while we would see a beautiful big home on the top of a mountain. I took tons of pictures of those. We stopped at a fruit stand for some fresh oranges which were as big as grapefruit! They had lemon, lime, peaches, pumpkins and tons of other things such as avocado's etc. After a bit we came out of the mountains and drove threw the Mojave Desert, you could see the mountains in the background and every once in awhile a town appeared out of no where, there were random things in the middle of it like a sofa a T.V and a stove. It looked like something straight out of a western with abandoned ranches and run down old Texaco stations. Shane and I were on the lookout for roadrunners and tumbleweeds but unfortunately we didn't see either. We hit one little sand storm that pulled the car a bit but it wasn't too serious. There was one area where we went back into mountains and we hit an altitude of about 4000 ft over sea level!
We arrived around 6:00 and we thought the traffic congestion was just because of rush hour to later realise that Barack Obama was delivering a speech to the city! We were trying to get off of one street that ended up being blocked off to allow the heavy traffic from the ball park to move out of the city. I thought that was pretty cool cause they had Cops on motorcycles all over the corner of Washington and Las Vegas Blvd. I took a picture to mark the moment ;O) we decided to hold off doing anything until tomorrow when it is daylight outside. So I'll leave you with today's slide show. Iris use the left/right buttons on the bottom left instead of the bigger play button. Hugz everyone, we miss you! God Bless you!
