Caught in an Ice Storm!

Well, this is what you would see if you took the scenic route around our town! It's a mess! There are power lines down all over the place due to the heavy ice we've been bombarded with the last couple of days. Work crews are out full force.
I went out and shoveled for a short while until the snow/ice got so heavy my legs started to get wobbly! I moved my car over in the driveway and when I rolled the window down there was a sheet of ice that stayed completely intact! The trees are covered in a thick crystal-like ice resembling chandeliers, it is really quite magnificent but destructive. The power went out on Tuesday morning, we had ours restored within hours but the western half of the Island and a few other areas are still without. We're OK even if it does go out because we have a wood stove in the wreck room so we would just move what ever we need down there. Our cable and Internet were out for a couple of days and *sniff* I really missed you guys! We opened our home to a few people at our Church who are out of power, and the church is putting on a nice warm dinner to feed those who are still powerless. Hopefully they will all find a warm empty bed to stay in for a couple of nights or so. Sounds like it may take a few days to have the power fully restored. I just had the weather network on and they were saying that China has had some unusual amount of snow as well, they said that there was 25cm in some places, trains and airlines have delayed transportation, and 11 major highways are closed. The are predicting it to get worse over the next few days. Hope everything is going OK with any agencies that may have groups there right now.

Wow! I live in the southern US and have never seen anything like that! We do have ice and every 5 years about an inch of snow. We have alot of underground utilities, the last picture is just amazing to me.

Hi Deb: Great shot we had until me going to your blog only heard about it from Timothy and Amanda, now we see it, they are still without power, I hope they got a hot meal at the church.
We on the otherhand are quite the opposite tonight it is about 22 C. Humid to be sure but warm just the same. We get to our flat on Friday til then we are touring about seeing things we seldom take time to stop and see normally.
Huggs til next time

I seen the island on CTV last night, the first thought that came to mind was you and I was hoping you were okay.
I hope the weather cooperates and you won't lose you power again.
Wishing everyone safety and warmth.
It was beautiful to see how everyone was coming together and helping everyone out, it's great to have good neighbours.

That is absolutely gorgeous. We had an ice storm like that a few years back and it wreaked havoc on the power lines and people had trees falling on their roofs, etc. What a mess!
You must admit, even though it is terribly destructive, it is so unbelievably beautiful at the same time.

Those photos are amazing. I'm so glad your family is safe. How kind of you to open up your home to others. I pray power comes back on for all those without power.

Those are very good pictures, but I know how tragic it must be there. We had a similar storm come through in December that left a lot of our area without electricity for up to 10 days or so.

Hope everything gets better soon.
