Catchin' Up

Saying goodbye to China.
Playing "Lady and the Tramp" with Mama!
Wearing her pretty little welcome home dress.
First time being tucked into her own bed and saying bedtime prayers.

Thursday we made a quick last trip to the market to get a couple of little things. Our flight was at 6pm and a few others were leaving at 4pm so with the bus only making one trip to the airport we had no choice but to go 5 hours early. We made the best of it though. I'd rather be early than late anyway. Mind you it was a long time for our little Sugar Pie to have to wait before a 13 hour flight. She fussed a little at the gate (boredom I'm sure) but seemed ok once we got on the plane.....noticed I said *seemed*.....first of all she had been waiting for what felt like forever in the airport, we put her in this seat and put a seat belt on her(Chinese aren't required to wear a seat belt in China...I totally don't understand this with the way they drive!) She started to wiggle and squirm and fuss until she knew it was a battle she couldn't win then she fell sound asleep for a couple of hours. 13 hours later we arrived in Toronto to be welcomed by this sweet bloggy friend with her 2 sweet daughters and a sign welcoming us home. It was nice to see a familiar face. Thanks Lisa!
We spent the night in a hotel close by and got up early to catch a flight home. Sugar Pie did pretty good on the flight to Halifax but once again there was a long wait. This time it was only 4 hours. Two days to get home with all this waiting in airports and such! We boarded the plane from Halifax to Charlottetown and she slept threw the entire thing! It was only a short flight anyway. We arrived and headed up the ramp and were met by a wonderful welcome home committee here too! It was sooo nice to see Jaclyn and K! I missed them so much! It was nice to see so many family members and friends from church, a few of the youth came down and they made a welcome home sign too, it was adorable! Carolyn and Marvin were there too, it was nice to have the support and welcome from others in the adoption community.
Lori and Dara grabbed our bags and took them out to the van which was sooo nice! We were pretty happy to be finally heading home...*sigh*. We arrived home and took Sugar to her room and let her check it out. She was so overwhelmed with everything she didn't know where to begin. She wasn't entirely impressed with the cat and dog though. She has probably never seen one so close. We got her dressed for bed and after a little melt down she finally fell asleep. It didn't last long though, we ended up having her sleep with us. I did try to rock her and it worked a tiny bit but not enough I guess. Her timing is pretty messed up still being on China time.
We stayed around home yesterday and today. Sugar hasn't been bonding to me as much as Baba and only wanted him to do stuff for her so we thought it best to just lay low from people until she gets more familiar with the house and new surroundings and bond to me more. She woak up at 1 am Friday night and was up for the day...then last night she was up at 2 and didn't go back to bed. We kept her up all day today, had she wanted to nap early we would have been fine but when she started to fade at 4pm we kept her busy to stay awake until at least 6. After a little supper and a bath she was ready for bed . She fussed a little but was down for the count in no time. I'm praying she will sleep the night threw but if she doesn't we will just try again until we get her on a schedule. Both Sugar and myself have jet leg. Shane was more bothered on the way to China.
We are trying to settle this week, I've done the travel laundry, my sweet little sister had the house all cleaned for us when we got home. She made a chicken soup for us for supper which was sooo wonderful. I really appreciated this! It's been a long couple of days I have to admit. We will find a new normal soon. I figured I'd better try to catch you up on what was going on since we left China, I hadn't had a chance until now. Sugar is doing better today than yesterday, she played and interacted with me much more. ;O) this is good.

It is great to see you are all home and doing well... I love to travel (as you know) but then with all those layovers in the airport would be a killer for a child...
Hope that the sleeping patterns settle down sooner rather then later...
It must be awesome to finally see that little bed being used by Jazmyn that you have waited so long for...
Hugs to you all...

Oh do I remember the jet lag, Maddie not sleeping at night and adjusting to being a new Mom. It's joyously wonderful and challenging at the same time. Welcome home and congratulations. Before you know it there will be a blessed rhythm :)...

Welcome home! It is wonderful seeing Jazmyn in her bed! Jet lag is the worst, but it will fade. Once you all get adjusted to the time - it will hopefully be smooth sailing!

Hey there! Thanks for the message. Following your blog has brought back such memories of the wait, wait, wait...and then the adjustment and joy all mixed in. Thanks for sharing so much. Jazmyn's cheeks are edible :) Your daughter (doesn't that sound good?) is such a cute little peanut. We gave up on the crib too and just had Maddie stay on a low trundle with bedguards. So many adjustments. I LOVE Jazmyn's room - so light and cheerful. Maddie too was soothed by water and (for some reason) the vacume :) Take care...we're all rooting for you!

Hi Deb:

This is Rhonda one of your fellow Sep 12th travel mates. I didn't get a chance to tell you in China but I was following your blog before we left and just now was able to catch up on your actual trip. It was fun to read about our same travel itinerary through someone else's experience! What an amazing experience we've all had.

Glad you're home safe and sound. We too are still trying to get our days/nights turned around. No rush except for Glen who is already back at work. And we're also all trying to get over this lousy cold.

All the best to you, Shane and Jaz (such a little sweetheart!)

We've blogged our trip too at
web.me.com/rngnalex
I think you'll find a couple pics of yourselves there probably at dinner time
