What's Your Favorite Christmas Carol and Why

Funny how a certain song can bring back memories from days gone by and give you a warm feeling all over as if a friendly past is coming back to give you a big hug. The song that does that for me is "I Saw Three Ships." That carol brings me back to a time when my Dad was still with us and I guess I was probably 6 years old. Everything in the world was perfect to me, I had a wonderful set of parents, cat, dog, a home with a white picket fence and I felt safe and protected. I remember my daddy telling me to look into one of the glass balls and gradually get closer and closer until my nose looked really BIG! One of the first Christmas carols I learned in school was this one and because we lived only a stones throw away from the ocean I thought for sure that on Christmas day I would be able to see these three ships for myself! It never did happen...:o( but my world was perfect then, I never understood pain, hurt or suffering, there were no real fears in my life. Today when I hear that carol....for a brief moment the world seems perfect again, but my ship hasn't come in yet! So tell me....what is your favorite Christmas carol and why?

What a sweet story. It really warmed my heart this morning.

My favorite song is "O Holy Night." I think as a child the part: "Fall on your knees and hear the angels voices." was always my favorite. Sung well it gives me goosebumps every time. I always imagine the whole world on their knees before the Lord.

My favorite is The Christmas Song by Johnny Mathis. My parents had only one Christmas album when I was little. I used to start playing it in September. :) By the time Christmas came around my brothers would beg not to hear Johnny Mathis again! :)

This is such a fun post. Thanks for taking me back to a wonderful memory.

It's so difficult to pick just one! But... I think it would have to be "Grown-Up Christmas List" by Amy Grant. I just love the lyrics - makes my eyes well up every single time.

Wow.. this is hard. How can I pick just one?

I love the song "Where are you Christmas?" by Faith Hill. It makes me a little sad and weepy though. Especially considering this is our 3rd Christmas since our LID with no end in sight to this wait.

But I also love "Silent Night" cuz it's so beautiful. And "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" cuz it makes you want to celebrate the season. Oh boy... I can think of a few more but I'll stop at that. LOL!

Mary Did you know!
It is a newer one but it is so insightful of a young mum's heart, I would have to say is for now a very special one for me.
Old ones would be Joy to the world.
As a child I had deep hopes that one day not only the world I shared with family but the whole world would know true Joy.
Thanks for making me think for a minute.

I think my favorite to listen to is Stevie Nicks' version of Silent Night. It's just lovely.

The ones that make me think of my childhood are: Away in a Manger and Do You Hear What I Hear.

Good post!

My top favorite is Silver Bells sang by Bing Crosby. My mother use to put these little blueish silver bells that looked like they were made of sugar on my packages under the tree. It became a tradition, and I ended up getting them once I married and moved away. Now it is a tradition here.
But, since I've had kids my second favorite is by the Oak Ridge Boys "Thank God For Kids". It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it.

Love your memories...thank you for making me think about it...

I have so many favorite Christmas songs, but one of my favorite memories regarding a Christmas is of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and my cousin Tracy yelling at the top of her lungs, "LIKE A LIGHT BULB"!!! I can remember cracking up and I cannot hear that song and not think of that. We were at my Granny and Sugarbabes in the living room, I can remember it like it was yesterday. We were both probably about 7 or 8!!! I love those memories.
Love and blessings, Kristy
