Peom I wrote for my Mom when I was 19!

I OWE YOU
Have you ever gone back to the memories in the back of your mind? Well, I was sorting mine out and I came across a whole lot of IOU'S , some were bout 19 years old, and I owe them all to one person. I'm thinking now would be a good time for accounting.

Mom, are ya listening? Oh, Mom I owe you for so many things, a lot of different services like night watchmen for instance, for lying awake nights listening for coughs, crys, creeping floorboards and me coming in too late. Oh you had the eye of an eagle and the roar of a lion, but you always had a heard as big as a home.

I owe you for being a short order cook, chef, baker for making steak out of hamburger and turkey out of tuna fish, and raising healthy kids out of leftovers.

I owe you for cleaning services, for the daily cleaning of face and ears, all work done by hand. For washing and ironing that no dry cleaner could ever do.

For drying the tears of childhood and for ironing out the problems of growing up. I owe you for being a bodyguard, for protecting me from the terrors of thunderstorms, lighting, and for eating too many green apples. The Lord knows I owe you for medical attention, for nursing me through measles , mumps, chickenpox, bruises, bumps, splinters and spring fever. Well lets not forget medical advice either, no no , things that were important like " If you don't stop scratching that it ain't never gonna get well" and "if you keep making that face someday it's gonna stay that way."

I owe you for vet services, for feeding all the dogs and cats we begged you for. Remember that old grey wild tom cat I drug home one day?

I owe you for healing the pain of puppy love. Nuff bout that!

I owe you for construction work. For making sleighs out of cardboard and building my confidence, hopes and dreams. Mom somehow you made them all touch the sky. For cementing together a family that could withstand the worst kinds of shocks and blows. For laying down a good strong foundation for us to build our lives on.

One thing I'll never forget, when there were only three pieces of pie left and four hungry people, I noticed that you always decided that you really weren't hungry anymore.

These are just a few of the things of which payment is long overdo. The person I owe them to worked very, very long and hard. She managed simply by doing without a whole lot of things that she even needed herself. My iou's add up to much more than I could hope to repay, but you know the nicest thing about it all is that I know she'll mark the whole bill paid in full for just four little words.
MOM, I LOVE YOU.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY EVERYONE.

What an amazing tribute. I'm in awe... so many truths here that are universal. Got me crying again. No worries, the good kind of tears. Sounds like your mom was an incredible woman.

Thanks as well for the velcro hug. I'm feeling in need of just that.
