We all have a favorite Christmas story to tell and I'm about to tell you one of my favorites that I tell someone new every year and I usually make them cry so if you are soft at heart you had better grab a tissue.

My nephew who is now 14 was at the time of this story was only 7 years old. It was two weeks before Christmas and he was getting excited about the upcoming excitement of the holidays, my sister who works as a lead at a call center was busy with work and preoccupied with the details of preparing for Christmas. Each day Colby would get ready for school and Lori would help him with his boots, hand him his lunch bag and before he would turn on one heal to head to school he would say to his mom, "Do you have to work today?" and Lori would say "Yes Colby, I have to work today." The next day the same thing, the next day again the same thing, and finally after being asked the same question over and over she said to him," Yes Colby, Mommy works everyday."

A few days passed and Lori was vacuuming the house and when she went into Colby's room she seen a letter on his dresser and at first I would imagine she hesitated to look at it but made the decision to go ahead and this is what the letter said.

Dear Colby, You must love your mom alot . Although you didn't ask for anything I'm still going to put some surprises under the tree. Love Santa.

Lori wondered all day what Colby could have possibly asked for from Santa. When he got home from school she asked him about the Santa letter and he looked up at her with his big blue eyes and said " I told Santa all I wanted for Christmas was for you to have the day off"!!!!

I remember it like it was yesterday she called me right away and told me and confessed that she knew she was going to have a couple of days off but forgot to tell him. Both of us were on the phone with tears in our eyes and lumps in our throats, marveling at the unselfishness of a little boy who just wanted to see his mommy have the day off of work for Christmas. Such a sacrifice for a little boy to make. That is what real love is all about at Christmas.

1 Corinthians 13:13 ...faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
